The Theory of Relativity

"I like spring more than any other season"
"I like Italian cuisine more than Indian "
"I love reading books more than watching TV"
"I enjoy her company more than my other friends "
"Dancing is a better exercise to de-stresser than yoga "

In schools, All of us have studied that an adjective can exist in 3 forms - Positive , Comparative and Superlative degrees. There is a similarity across all sentences in the above, "Comparison of one to the other" !

Is this standard ? No, Not at all ! This is different from person to person on the basis of their likes, dislikes, needs, experiences etc.

When we compare one object to the other, there is a question that rises in our mind and that is " BY HOW MUCH"

Whenever we have  to make a choice over the other, we tend to create a matrix in our mind, build a measurement scale, define our own metrics/parameters, and then fit contents in the matrix. That's how we always answer to the question of " BY HOW MUCH"

The Special Theory of Relativity says
a. Laws of physics are same for all observers in uniform motion RELATIVE to one another
b. Speed of light  in the vacuum is same for all observers regardless of their relative motion

One of the most common example used to explain the theory is of a moving train.

If you are on a moving train, and you throw a ball in the direction in which train is moving , say at a speed of 5 ft/sec, so as per you, the ball is traveling 5 ft in a second. If the train is moving at 10 ft/sec, the person standing on the platform will observe the ball is moving at 15 ft/sec ( 5+10) . But both of us are correct, in our own frame of reference

Similarly, every person is correct is making his inferences as per his frame of reference

Theory of "Ancient " Relativity

Einstein's theory of relativity is also captured in our ancient indian scripture Mahabharata

In golden age, there was a brave king Kakudmi, who had a beautiful daughter "Revati". For many years, King Kukudmi was not able to find a suitable groom on entire earth for her daughter. Therefore, he decided to travel to Brahmalok to take help of Lord Brahma. When he explained his problem to Lord Brahma, Brahma smiled and said, " Time runs different on different planes of existence. A minute on my planet is equivalent to years on your planet i.e. earth . It has been so much yugas that nobody on earth know about you or your family. When you will reach earth, you will be in Dwapar yug, so you can marry your daughter to Balaram, the avatar of Sheshnath".
It is well explained in the video link shared here :

Once Brahma himself was fooled when he didn't believe that Lord Krishna was incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He stole all cows and friends of little Krishna, as it was a fraction of second on Brahmalok and years on earth, Krishna created duplicate copies of Cows and friends on earth. Then Brahma realised that Krishna is none other than the avatar of Lord Vishnu

Theory of "Emotional " Relativity

Every experienced emotion is relative to the person's past experience of events, each of which in turn recalls an emotion relative to the events preceding it. Every event is encoded in the individual's emotional memory box.

It says, those people who have faced more challenging experiences in the past , are better prepared in the future than those people who had an happy go life in the past. Probability of having an higher EQ is higher for the person who has experienced challenges in past

Never two people can feel same experience from one event, it is relative on the basis of past events, patterns, etc

When two kids of same age, are playing on a roller coaster, the level of amusement will be different for both of them

Similarly, level of Satisfaction, Ethics and Values , Success and all emotions are relatively different for different people.  Process of reciprocation against every activity is different for different people on the basis of the matrix they are creating in their mind

For e.g, there are 2 friends doing a car race. They stop at a red signal. One 8 year old dark pale boy  slightly knocks at the window for alms . Both friends have different reaction to this event
1. Give him money so that he will be able to help his family
2. Let's not give him money, rather  help him in getting admission to a school so that he can study and work to support his family

There can be many other reactions also to this event

A person working under the sun daily is relatively less sensitive to heat and rain then the ones working under closed doors

Theory of "Market" Relativity

Fear and greed are the two powerful emotions that have been part of financial markets for decades.
Behavioral finance says how emotions affect financial markets, has gained a lot of credibility in last few years, as market participants have gradually realized the importance of emotional theory in the stock market .
People do make decisions on the basis of rules of thumb, stereotypes, mis-pricing as well as non rational decision making

"Everything that can be counted does not necessarily count; everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted."
- Albert Einstein

Relativity is everywhere ! Part of our daily events, each and every individual witness this in a different way at the different place. That's how we answer to " BY HOW MUCH"
